White House Warriors: How the National Security Council Transformed the American Way of War
Join the Temple Sinai DayTimers to hear John Gans, the author of White House Warriors: How the National Security Council Transformed the American Way of War, discuss why knowing the NSC staff’s war stories is the only way to truly understand American foreign policy. The NSC began in 1947 but truly gained its footing under the leadership of Brent Scowcroft. Dr. Gans’ account details the stormy tenure of National Security Advisor John Bolton and how it led to the collapse of the National Security Council under Donald Trump and the Administration’s tragic mishandling of the Corona pandemic.
John Gans, PhD. is the Director of Communications and Research at the University of Pennsylvania’s Perry World House global policy center. Gans served in the Obama Administration as senior speechwriter for Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel (2014) and Secretary of the Treasury Jack Lew (2015). Until 2017, Gans served at the Pentagon as chief speechwriter to Secretary of Defense Ash Carter. Gans also worked in the office of the Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, and for Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton.
John earned his BA from Northwestern University and his MA and PhD. From the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS).
