Join us for this Shabbat service dedicated to refugees and asylum seekers and all who help them. This is a critical moment for all of us to reaffirm and redouble our support for refugees and asylum seekers as we continue to advocate for and support migrants along the US southern border and recently resettled Afghans who fled their homes last year. The timeliness and importance of Refugee Shabbat is made clear by the unfolding crisis in Ukraine that could displace up to 5 million people according to UNHCR estimates.
All are welcome to join us for services virtually or in person. If you plan to join us in person, please note that in order to enter the temple, you must show proof of vaccination – either a vaccine card or a photo of it on your phone. Our security staff will be checking at the door. Those unable to be fully vaccinated must show lab results of a negative Covid test. Test results must be from a CLIA certified lab; home test results are not accepted. Antigen tests taken within 24 hours or PCR tests within 72 hours are accepted. All members, guests, and staff must remain masked at all times in the building.

Our congregation continues to support several refugees and asylum seekers. Our guest speaker is Blondy Mayele, a young man from the Democratic Republic of Congo who escaped political imprisonment and joined our community in January 2019. Blondy will share his compelling story along with inspirational life lessons that he has drawn from his experience. Please watch this introductory message from HIAS, the Jewish refugee resettlement agency, about the meaning of Refugee Shabbat.
