Leaning In: The Current Jewish Music Scene, and One Rabbi’s Approach
Special Guest Rabbi Noah Diamondstein, Assistant Rabbi at Temple Sinai
Jewish Music has moved our people’s hearts and spirits for millennia. Going all the way back to the psalms in the age of the Temples in Jerusalem, our people’s evolving tradition has always relied on melodies and harmonies to make the moments we share special and meaningful. Today, many artists from across the denominational spectrum are using music in all sorts of new ways and experimenting in new genres and avenues. Our own Rabbi Diamondstein, thanks to a generous gift from Temple Sinai’s Florence and Irwin Speyer Jewish Music Innovation Fund, is deep in the work of recording and producing his second album of Jewish music. Rabbi Diamondstein will discuss his own music, and his approach to and vision for music’s role in Jewish expression, from prayer, to group singing, to recreational listening.
Join the Temple Sinai Daytimers via Zoom to learn more about the importance of music and melodies to both ancient and contemporary Judaism and how Jewish music is continuing to evolve.
