Grant for his infamous Order No. 11 expelling all Jews from his area of command and Lincoln for promptly rescinding the order. Grant later made amends in several ways. Lincoln had involvement with Jews in Springfield during his campaign for president and his appointments and other significant actions during his presidential term.
Charles Edson is a native of St. Louis and was a practicing attorney there before coming to Washington to help structure the Legal Services Program of the Office of Economic Opportunity. He also was the General Counsel of the Presidents Commission on Postal Organization and in the legal office at the Department of Housing and Urban Development. leading to a private practice exclusively in the affordable housing field. Over a 24-year period he was appointed by four Maryland governors to serve on the Maryland Historical Trust, which administers the states historic preservation program. He served as chair for six years. He has a special interest in the Civil War era and the relationship between Lincoln, Grant and the Jewish community.
