Temple Sinai has a long history and tradition of making social justice an integral part of the life of the congregation. That storied history continues with the founding of The Davis Center for Social Justice which organizes, supports and strengthens the social justice work of Temple Sinai.

The mission of the Davis Center is to repair the world through bold action, learning, and advocacy and strengthen the sense of community and purpose among Temple Sinai’s members, its partners and the wider community.

The Davis Center seeks to build community and foster relationships through tikkun olam (repairing the world), and focuses on engaging all Temple Sinai members, both young old, and others in learning about and acting on Jewish values for justice, equality, and a better world. It works towards racial equity, ending systemic racism and realizing Temple Sinai’s goal of becoming an affirmatively antiracist congregation. The impact of the Center is felt through direct assistance and support for individuals and groups in need and through activism on matters of policy, civic life and social justice. Beyond Temple Sinai, The Davis Center seeks to foster innovation and to impact the broader social justice conversation and efforts of congregations in the Reform movement and partner organizations in the DMV.
