Join the Temple Sinai DayTimers to hear Professor Debra Caplan, Yiddish theater historian, as she recounts the golden days when Boris Thomashevsky, Jacob Adler, Molly Picon, Muni Wiesenfreund (Paul Muni) and many others created a unique theatrical experience. How the Yiddish theater was born, developed, and impacted the millions of Yiddish-speaking immigrants of the early 20th Century will be discussed in Professor Caplan’s presentation. There will be ample time for questions and comments following the presentation.
Debra Caplan is an Associate Professor of Theater at Baruch College, City University of New York. Her research focuses on Yiddish theater and drama, theatrical travel, artistic networks, and immigrant theater. She is the author of Yiddish Empire: The Vilna Troupe, Yiddish Theater, and the Art of Itinerancy and is currently working on a biography of Molly Picon. She holds a B.A from Hampshire College and a Ph.D from Harvard.
