Evictions And Settler Violence: A First-Hand Report On What Is Happening On The West Bank Today
The TS Committee for Israel Engagement and Social Justice (CIESJ) hosts a program with Rabbi Arik Ascherman. Rabbi Ascherman has been one of the leading human rights activists in Israel over the last 30 years, first as the Executive Director of Rabbis for Human Rights for 25 years, and since 2017 the Executive Director of Torat Tzedek (Torah of Justice). His activism is notable for going beyond work with policy makers and legislators to direct action in the villages and fields of East Jerusalem and the Occupied Territories to protect Palestinians from the unjust application of military and administrative rule as well as from the intimidations and attacks from extremist Israeli settlers. Torat Tzedek focuses on several human rights areas: basic rights for shepherds; unjust evictions in East Jerusalem; public housing accessibility; preventing home demolitions; and protecting Bedouin communities in the Negev.
Since the October 7 massacre by Hamas, extremist settlers in the West Bank have accelerated the frequency and brutality of their attacks on Palestinian villagers with the aim of driving them out. Please come to hear Rabbi Ascherman discuss this increasingly hostile environment for justice for Israelis and Palestinians as a result of the extreme current government and his efforts to combat these assaults, which contradict our Jewish moral obligation to value the human rights of all people.
A reception will follow for in-person attendees
Livestream information will be provided to registrants.
