About Us

Senior Staff photo

Led by Senior Rabbi Fred Reiner, Rabbi Mindy Portnoy, Rabbi Jessica Oleon, Cantor Laura Croen and Cantorial soloist Robyn Helzner. Temple Sinai, organized in 1951, has over 1,100 member families and is one of the largest Reform Jewish congregations in the Washington, DC area.

New members are always welcome at Temple Sinai. If you are interested in membership, please contact the Temple for information and to arrange for a visit to our location on Military Road NW in Washington, DC.

The Temple Sinai community offers a great breadth of opportunities for participating in worship, programs, and services for all ages, as well as a remarkable Religious education program and NAEYC-accredited Nursery School.

The Temple’s mission statement and core values incorporate the primary reasons members belong to Temple Sinai – ritual observance, Jewish education, tikkun olam (repairing the world), belonging to a Jewish community and concern for Israel as a Jewish homeland. Temple Sinai has a distinguished tradition in each of these areas, with our particular focus through the lens of Reform Judaism.

Mission

Temple Sinai’s mission statement was adopted in 2001 as part of its Endowment Campaign.

Temple Sinai is a center for those who seek to develop and enhance their Jewish identity through ritual life, education, social action, concern for the State of Israel, and communal involvement, with an emphasis on the enduring Jewish values expressed by the Reform Movement.
