Join our full clergy team and choir and guest speaker Michael Abramowitz to commemorate Yom Hashoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day). We will remember those who died in the Shoah and invite you to submit names of loved ones to be included on the memorial list. Email names (and any guidance on pronunciation) to Michelle Becker, mbecker@templesinaidc.org.
Michael will address the challenge of “never again” in our time. From the war in Ukraine to anti-vaxxers wearing yellow stars as a sign of protest, the meaning and application of lessons from the Holocaust has perhaps never been more urgent and more contested. Michael’s message will resonate for anyone who is committed to democracy and seeks to understand the connection between threats to democracy and the rise of mass violence and genocide.
Michael Abramowitz is President of Freedom House and before that he was the director of the US Holocaust Memorial Museum’s Levine Institute for Holocaust Education. Freedom House is founded on the core conviction that freedom flourishes in democratic nations where governments are accountable to their people; the rule of law prevails; and freedoms of expression, association, and belief, as well as respect for the rights of women, minority communities, and historically marginalized groups, are guaranteed.
