3/8/09 GENIZA CEREMONY

Congregants are invited to our Geniza ceremony at Garden of Remembrance cemetery (in Clarksburg, a 40-minute drive from Temple Sinai) at 2:15 P.M. We will meet at the gates of the cemetery, and then join together to ritually bury all our damaged old prayer books & other Jewish books.
In Jewish tradition, we do not discard sacred books, but rather honor them as we honor the deceased of our people. Please bring with you books of your own which you would like included in the ceremony. This will also give you an opportunity to see our new cemetery (click MORE INFO below).
Those wishing to tour the Temple Sinai section after the ceremony are welcome to stay and meet with Sheldon Grosberg. Note that the price for plots will increase on June 1, 2009, so you may want to consider a purchase this spring. For more, contact Ted Rosen at 301-530-3403.

The Past is Present. So is the future.
In the 5 years since its dedication, the Garden of Remembrance has apportioned areas of space to 15 Jewish congregations in the greater Washington area, as well as areas for those unaffiliated with a congregation. This inclusiveness echoes the unity of the communal cemeteries traditional in Jewish communities throughout the world.
We invite you to begin a new tradition with your family. Learn more about the area's only not-for-profit cemetery operated by a board of Jewish community leaders.
