Jean Pfaeelzer will discuss her book “Driven Out, the forgotten war against Chinese Americans.” Jean Pfaelzer has pulled back the veil on one of the most frightening and little known moments in American history. It is the unknown story of Chinese immigrants who were subject to “ethnic cleansing” through racial programs and brutal terror in California and the Pacific Northwest. It is also a story of how the victims bravely fought back and stood up for their civil rights. Jean Pfaelzer is Professor of English, and East Asian and American Studies at the University of Delaware. She is the author of four other books and numerous articles on 19th century history, culture, and women’s literature and cultural theory. Bring a brown bag lunch. Dessert and coffee are provided. A contribution of $3 is requested to cover basic costs. For reservations please call Judie or Bob Bor at (301) 587-5793 by Friday, March 5.
Music is a central component of our liturgy, and we all have strong personal opinions about it. Cantor Laura Croen will present two sessions on Jewish music. You will be enlightened, challenged, and entertained by the plethora of Jewish music, and Cantor Croen's presentation of the history and development of Reform synagogue music. The group will meet at 8:00 PM. RSVP to Linda Katz at lkatz@templesinaidc.org.
The next meeting of the Multi-Faith Roundtable will present a Comparison of Passover and Easter as well as Pentacost and Shavuot. Rabbi Reiner and Monsignor John Enzler will be the presenters. The meeting will take place at the Duffy Parish Center at Blessed Sacrament Church. There is no fee but reservations are necessary. To reserve a space please contact either Evelyn Kaitz at 301-881-1132 or Alice Rabin at 301-622-4385. The Multi-Faith Roundtable is an important community connection that was started about 40 years ago during Rabbi Lipman’s tenure and it has thrived throughout this time.
