Subject: Proposed 2008-09 Fiscal Year Budget
Attached are spreadsheets summarizing the budget proposed for the next fiscal year. It was difficult, and somewhat painful, to present a balanced budget, as we are required to do. We are in a period in which many of our costs are increasing in ways over which we have limited control; these include personnel expenses, utility and insurance costs, and so on. On the other hand, dues revenue is stagnant and investment income, never large, is declining. Moreover, a substantial part of the budget is basically nondiscretionary, at least in the short term. Of total expenses (excluding the Nursery School, which is self-supporting) of approximately $ 3.2 million, over $2.4 million is accounted for by personnel costs or building operations. As a result we are not able to present any substantial new programmatic activity this year... [See PDF below for more]
Reauthorization Resolution:
The Building Maintenance Fund was established by the Congregation in 1995 to provide funds for the upkeep of the newly renovated Temple facility. The Congregation established the Fund primarily to ensure that monies would be available to make capital improvements to the building to prevent it from deteriorating again after the renovation. The Congregation is being asked to reauthorize the Building Maintenance Fund on a continuing basis, pursuant to the graduated rate adopted at the 1999 annual meeting, as set out below...
