More than 80 temple congregants met in the Bet Am on Sunday, December 18, 2011, to discuss the next step in Temple Sinai’s effort to revitalize our social action efforts. Since the official launch of our congregation-wide listening campaign on Yom Kippur, more than 300 temple members have participated in over 30 house meetings. At these meetings, congregants shared their concerns and their energy to act to make change. At the December 18 “talk back” meeting, Rabbi Jessica Oleon, Rabbi Erica Asch, Washington Interfaith Network (WIN) Organizer Amy Vruno, and Social Action Committee Chair Robin Shaffert led the group in reviewing what we had heard from congregants over the last several months and in moving forward to the next step of our organizing campaign.
The December 18 meeting broke into five discussion groups. Each group began to explore how to build a base within the congregation from which to make change, what allies they would need outside of the congregation, and when to meet next. If you are interested in working to effect change in any of these areas, we strongly encourage you to attend the next meeting of the group.

- Hunger: Next Meeting – Sunday, January 29 at 2 pm
- Working on WIN’s Jobs initiative – Sunday, January 29 at 12 pm
- Disability and Aging: Next Meeting – Wednesday, January 25 at 7:30 pm
If you are interested in being a part of one or more of these campaigns, please let us know by emailing justcongregations@templesinaidc.org. All of these groups are at the formative stages. We are continuing to explore what is possible and where there is energy to act. Please let us hear from you.
We are also trying to identify people in the congregation with significant professional or volunteer experience that is relevant to these campaigns.
