Our all-volunteer Board of Directors, tutors, mentors and playtime supervisors are an integral part of Sinai House. Past Bar/Bat Mitzvah projects have included refurbishing the community playroom, taking portraits of our resident families and taking resident children on an outing. We hope you will be inspired to join us after you read some of our Sinai House Volunteers Stories.
All are welcome to join in the fun and fundraising for the 3rd annual event honoring Tricia Davis, an early supporter of Sinai House. Celebrate the extraordinary Sinai House moms on Mother’s Day!
Join us for our annual Homes & Hearts Shabbat and Festive Oneg! Current and former resident children of Sinai House will join the Temple Sinai Youth Choir in song and a former Sinai House resident will share her inspiring story. Stay for the festive oneg following the service and chat with current and former residents and Sinai House Board Members.

Andy Chernack won the Sinai House Hero Award. He stood outside a grocery store for an hour with a bucket and a sign that said,"Come talk to me about Babe Ruth." When someone stopped, he made a pitch for donations to benefit homeless families at Sinai House. Andy gave the $56 he collected to Sinai House Program Director, Lucane Lafortune, at the event.
Sinai House was established in 1992 by members of Temple Sinai to help formerly homeless families with children become stable & self-sufficient.
The program aims to help each family stabilize its housing and financial situations, accompanied by progress in attaining family members' educational and employment goals. We operate in two attached row houses in the Shaw neighborhood of DC. Our residents live in the program's apartment units and receive services under a case management plan tailored to their individual and family needs.
Services coordinated by the program director include parenting, nutrition and cooking classes, placement in appropriate job training programs, employment referrals, help learning to manage personal finances, and workshops on computer use, energy efficiency and how to obtain affordable housing and healthcare.

B'nai mitzvah social action volunteer opportunities are also available by clicking here. You may also contact Walde Diabate, Sinai House Assistant Program Director.
NOTE: If you search for Sinai House, the name "Sinai House AKA Raphael House" appears; but that organization is NOT related to Temple Sinai. To contribute to Sinai House, search for " Sinai Assisted Housing Foundation, Inc." or tax ID #52-1788685.
